Our Home Winery.

The Set was born near the eastern limits of the Sta. Rita Hills, on two sites that face each other across Highway 246 where Mail Road meets Drum Canyon. The two vineyards are named after (our father) William Hines, who planted them along with the guidance of winemaker Sashi Moorman in 2018.

There are 50 acres under vine, home to dense rows of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Syrah, Gamay, and Viognier – each block planted to match the spot where the terroir would best support the fruit grown.

Much was taken into account in choosing the site: slope degree, aspect, sun and wind exposure, soil composition. Beyond that, many blocks are planted using a field-blend approach to ensure genetic diversity within the block, leading to a deeper expression of the individual terroirs of the vineyards.

The Pacific Ocean is just a few miles away, giving us that perfect mix of cool nights, morning fog, and warm afternoon sun. These are the conditions that allow to grow these exemplary, varietally-correct cool-climate wines.

These special vineyards are why we choose to call them home.
This is the ground in which The Set was born.

Farmed With Care.

We keep things in the vineyard simple, but always intentional. Every block is farmed organically, with human hands at work at all stages. At harvest, each cluster is picked by hand, as each block is picked individually to ensure the balance of freshness and phenolic ripeness we want to see represented in the final wines.

This isn’t about following trends – it’s about growing great fruit that makes wines we’re excited to share. These vines are young, but they’re already showing what makes this place special. Our work in the vineyard is designed to support the vines that are there in the ground.

We invite you to come see all of this for yourself: we’ll walk the rows, taste some wine, and show you why we fell in love with this corner of California.
